Coaches Code of Conduct
WYHA Policy
Every coach, when they register, agrees to the four agreements, and additionally agrees to the WYHA Coaches Code of Conduct. In addition, WYHA follows and expects all members to adhere to all USA Hockey Policies including, but not limited to, policies on bullying, locker rooms, discrimination and substance abuse (alcohol, tobacco, vaping and any other prohibited substances).
Coaching Ethics Code
Coaches also agree to adhere to the USA Hockey Ethics Code.
WYHA Coaches Code of Conduct
Each member of the WYHA coaching staff participating in USA Hockey/WYHA for the season agrees to the following:
Winning is a consideration, but not the only one, nor the most important one.
I will care more about the child than winning the game.
I will remember players are involved in hockey for fun and enjoyment.
I will be concerned with the overall development of your players.
I will stress good health habits and clean living.
I will adopt a zero tolerance attitude toward verbal or physical abuse.
I will be a positive role model to my players, display emotional maturity and be alert to the physical safety of players.
I will not swear or use abusive language on the bench, in the rink, or at any team function.
I will be generous with my praise when it is deserved; be consistent and honest; be fair and just; I will not criticize players publicly; I will learn to be a more effective communicator and coach.
I will not lash out at any official no matter what the call is. The coaching staff will handle all matters pertaining to officiating in a respectful manner.
There will be no drinking, smoking, chewing of tobacco at any game, practice or other team function when I am responsible for the players well being.
The use of illegal substances is prohibited at all times.
I will conduct myself in a befitting manner at all facilities (ice rink, hotel, restaurant, etc) during all team functions.
I will adjust to personal needs and problems of players and be a good listener.
I will never be verbally or physically abusive to any player or official.
I will give all players the opportunity to improve their skills, gain confidence and develop self-esteem; and I will teach them the basics.
I will organize practices that are fun and challenging for my players.
I will familiarize myself with the rules, techniques and strategies of hockey; and encourage all my players to be team players.
I will maintain an open line of communication with my players parents.
I will explain the goals and objectives of our association.
If needed I utilize the 24 hour rule for disagreements and issues that arise during the season.
To play the game is great, to love the game is greater.
If I cannot abide by these rules or if I violate them, I understand I will be subject to disciplinary action from Webster Youth Hockey. I will obey directions from any member of the Board of Webster Youth Hockey.
